Corley was a referral all the way from Cornwall and has been nominated for the Bravest Pet Award by staff at Great Western Exotics (part of Vets Now Referrals in Swindon) for her sunny disposition despite her condition.
Corley had been seen by several vets before she was referred to GWE with a severe tracheal fungal infection (aspergillosis), which meant she was really struggling for every breath and had been like this for some weeks.
As part of her treatment she required the resection and removal of 6 tracheal rings (i.e. the removal of an inch of her windpipe) followed by anastomosis (having it re-joined). Not only had she been through a lot before she reached us, but this a major surgical procedure on a patient who only weighs approximately 1kg!
Corley is now back home and enjoys sitting on her owner’s shoulder and ‘chatting’ the day away, none the worse for her experience.
