Please be aware of recent measures imposed to protest UK poultry from the recent Avian Influenza outbreak in Europe. We would recommend all poultry owners register their flocks with APHA so they can be directly alerted of changes in the current advice (this is mandatory for flocks of 50 birds or more). We have had a number of calls from concerned clients regarding the recent Avian Influenza 30 day prevention zone and how it may affect their falconry activities. Firstly we must emphasise the situation can change rapidly and please keep monitoring our website, APHA and the Hawk Board.

Currently falconers are able to fly their birds. For clients who hunt with their birds it is recommended to avoid flying feathered quarry - in particular waterfowl who are common carriers of the virus. Birds should be regularly inspected and any clinical signs reported to APHA. When in the mews or weathering biosecurity measures should be in place to prevent contact (direct or indirect - eg faecal contamination from above) with wild birds.
