We provide a full 24 / 7 avian and exotic veterinary referral service 365 days of the year.
We work with vets – as an extension of their first-opinion service – when they feel that an expert opinion would be in a pet’s best interest. By sending a pet to Great Western Exotics, you are providing it with the best exotics expertise and care available.
We have a team of world-class vets who have chosen to become experts in avian and exotic veterinary medicine, undergoing years of additional training to become highly experienced in this field. We offer a premium level of care and see on a daily basis, species that many vets may not regularly treat.
We are also happy to provide clinical advice, interpret radiographs and laboratory results for colleagues in other veterinary practices.
For pet owners
If you are an owner with an avian or exotic pet already under the care of another vet, you may be referred to us by your vet for a second-opinion. In which case you will go back to your own vet after treatment and discharge.
You are also welcome to:
- come to us direct for a second opinion (i.e. you would then become our client). In such situations it is an ethical requirement that your vet is informed that we will be seeing your pet. Please note that we cannot give telephone advice about a pet which is under the care of another vet without first seeing the patient.
- come to us on an emergency basis if outside of your own vet’s normal working hours. However, any consultation will be charged an Out of Hours surcharge.
